Construction progress report template and worked example

Use a consistent reporting period and explain the evidence behind each update. The downloadable example uses synthetic Riverside House data and is not a customer result.

Start with the reporting basis

Record the project, reporting period, author and review state. Explain whether progress comes from an observation, a reported trade update or another agreed measure. Keep forecasts separate from completed work. An unsupported percentage can make an update look precise without helping the reader understand what has actually changed.

Include evidence and decisions

For each workstream, identify the activity observed, the source reference and any constraint. State the decision needed, the responsible person and the requested response date. A client update should explain why the decision matters and what evidence the reader should review. Do not present a requested date as an agreed commitment.

Review before release

Check project references, dates, quantities, photographs and the commercial scope with the responsible reviewer. Mark the approved reporting state and retain the source record. The example below is a draft until that review occurs. Adapt the template to your appointment and contract; it is an organisational aid, not a contractual notice or certificate.
